Facebook is becoming more and more painful to navigate these days despite being valued billions of dollars and having the ability to hire lots of staff to resolve the issues that are arising. I guess it’s back to the “dotcom boom like days” for FB at this point having basically taken over all the Social Media traffic out there basically leaving MySpace in the dust & making them do desperate things like Mash’ing Up with them.
[skip right to the instructions on how to delete a facebook app]
Have you ever had a Facebook app install mysteriously (ha, ha) to your account that you had second thoughts about later?
On a recent attempt to delete an annoying application I wasn’t truly able to “try out” before installing, I found it was hard to get clear instructions on “how to delete” or “how to remove facebook apps.” Their “search” functionality is quite weak or at least the algorithm hasn’t been fully thought out. At different times literally in the past few months to a year, it was easier to find things like “create a facebook page” or the “top facebook applications” that were created & managed by Facebook. They had clear instructions for the “create a facebook page” and the list of applications in the “top list” gave you an idea of what was being the “most used” by Facebook users. However, now when you search for “top facebook apps” or “top facebook applications” gives you a list of pages (even if you click on ‘pages’ or ‘groups’ to narrow down the search) that look nothing like what Facebook used to keep track of. It’s full of users PO’d or angry at all the applications.
Obviously, I could go to their Help pages, but typically “Help pages” on websites aren’t that well written out & even hard to find the right answer to the problem I needed to address. My bias made me try hard to “search” for the instructions, but since Facebook’s search is so bad, I ended up going to the Help section after all and found the details on how to get rid of that annoying app. So, if this for some reason post climbs up the search rankings for helping you get rid of that pesty Farmville app, here are the simple steps I wish I found before I wasted too much time searching for it.
1. Step 1: Go to your applications you use on FB page (click on the left to go there now, if you’re logged in)
**The url is: http://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=applications for those who want the exact url.
2. Highlight the “x” to the right of “Edit settings” link on the right of the application & click it to remove the app.
Yup, that’s it. Why is it so painful to navigate around Facebook these days? Well, I do remember the days of when the Internet was booming in the late 90’s. The costs of Facebook growing so popular, so fast probably is low customer service. It goes to show you a good plan does wonders for a business. At the same time, Zuckerberg probably couldn’t even have predicted how fast FB would be possibly the most used (or 2nd to it) website in the world. Who knows? The young Harvard drop out might overtake the Stanford geniuses who created the first mess (albeit a better mess & MUCH better search algorithm) that gives all of us SEO’s a great opportunity for at least the short term.
Oh by the way, if you’re interested in “adding an app” without being spammed with Mafia Wars requests, you can actually find a list of them here. And again, the url is http://www.facebook.com/apps/directory.php for you guys who don’t want to click, but cut and paste.
Sweet site, I hadn’t noticed seattleorganicseo.com before in my searches!
Keep up the great work!
Useful blog website, keep me personally through searching it, I am seriously interested to find out another recommendation of it.
Thanks for the post.
