If you’ve ever contacted us or worked with you, you’ll know that we don’t approach most clients first before they become clients. We almost built out a sales force at one point to connect with businesses who might not know the value of search engine optimization. However, we haven’t really built it out for a number of a reasons. Nevertheless, we like how marketing has changed where your clients can approach you first because they’re VERY interested in your product. Frankly, we might even be guilty of not being able to reply to all the requests and we apologize to all those out there that we haven’t been able to respond to.
On the flip side, we as well as many businesses probably get these type of emails or SEO soliciting on a regular basis:

First off, Mr. Ajay Singh (or maybe it’s Ms.), but do I know you? You look forward to my mail? How about getting to know us first? Or getting to know our needs?
The point of the post for the most part is that these vendors don’t put any care into getting to know us before spamming us a million times. If they put that little care into the initial contact which is in our opinion one of the most important opportunities to create a relationship, I wonder how they’re going to treat your campaign? It’s as simple as that.
This is what we usually spend sometimes a little too much time doing with new clients (again) before they become clients. It might be why we haven’t made as much money as we probably could. We spend a lot of time understanding the needs of a client.
I literally had to create a folder called “cheesy vendors” for emails like this because I was getting way too many of them. Here’s a few more of them:

Similar to Ajay above, this guy doesn’t even sign off with their own name. Ajay doesn’t even address us by our company name or my personal name. Is this a cultural thing to spam everyone possible for business? I wonder what the conversion rate on these emails are.
I love this one because they have no clue. They tell us they think we aren’t ranking at the top of our main keywords, but they didn’t even bother to look at our title tag because we rank #1 for both the main phrase “SEO Seattle”, but also the reverse of the phrase which we’ve ranked #1 for many months now (Seattle SEO).
We are an online marketing firm specializing in Search Engine Marketing Projects (Google PPC campaigns management and SEO).

Like I said, I could probably copy in another hundred emails here of all the solicitation I’ve gotten from some of these folks. Please bear in mind that I definitely am open to working with International partners and have multiple times. One of our best companies we outsource some of our work to is one that’s based in Thailand by a Dutch guy who has a team of mixed expats. But if these companies interact with us like this, I wonder how they’ll treat the work they actually conduct for us.
Something you should consider as well…
