richard holbrooke diesEasily mispelled Richard “Holbrook,”, it’s actually spelled Richard Holbrooke. For someone who’s spent a significant part of his life brokering peace, it’s unfortunate he dies at an early age before 70.

The man who “was also the only person to have held the Assistant Secretary of State position for two different regions of the world (Asia from 1977–1981, and Europe from 1994–1996)” died today at the age of 69 from reports of a torn aorta. He is survived by his wife Kati Martin, 2 sons and 2 step children. The man who is closely associated with negotiations in Bosnia and “who served in the Obama administration as the U.S. special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, was putting the finishing touches on a major report on American military and diplomatic efforts in Afghanistan, due to be released on Thursday,” according to ABC News.
